London Virgin Hair | Initial Review - Post Install | Hair Review

I'd first like to thank London Virgin Hair for choosing to work with me. They are an absolute pleasure to work with.
I was sent 3 bundles of Brazilian hair in 16 inches, 18 inches and 20 inches with a 16 inch 3-part closure.
The packaging was very classy coming in a black compact box that ensured the hair was definitely protected.

My first thought when I got the hair was that the hair was very soft and didn't shed at all when I ran my fingers through it so I was pleased.  The hair has a very natural colour to it just a little lighter than colour 1B, a very dark brown. My closure was a tad darker but blends well with the rest of the hair.
I decided to make a wig with the hair, when I started sewing down the 20" bundle I noticed the ends were a little thin which I was worried about.
I curled the hair once I'd finished making the wig and the ends gained volume.

I'm really impressed with this hair, it holds curls well and adapts well to heat.
I haven't experienced any tangling or shedding post install so I couldn't be happier.
I've received so many compliments since I started wearing this hair and I definitely feel as though my crown has been adorned.
The customer service is impeccable and I would recommend London Virgin Hair for luxurious, quality hair.

Visit their website to get your hands on this wonderful hair http://www.londonvirginhair.com

Cardamon | Manicure Mondays

I've been on the hunt for a khaki coloured nail polish that is affordable.
I really wouldn't be able to justify spending £15 on NailsInc or Burberry at the moment so I started looking for a drugstore alternative.
I went to my local Superdrug Store but the didn't have the Khaki colour by Collection so I opted for this shade of green.
Initially I wasn't too fond of the colour but I must admit that it's really grown on me.

Mini Shoe Haul | Public Desire

I'm usually not much of a shoe buyer but I guess with my change in wardrobe, I needed shoes to compliment the type of style I'm going for.
I'm not a trend follower either but the whole khaki trend this season is right up my street since the majority of my wardrobe consists of greys, blacks, whites, khakis and nudes.
I'm also really into block heels at the moment as they are a million times EASIER to walk in than the normal stiletto heel and they still look stylish.

Overcoming Negativity | Thoughtful Thursdays

There's nothing worse than being stuck in a rut, feeling rubbish, experiencing sad emotions and generally not having high self esteem.
It is honestly a horrible experience and it's something I still struggle with now but I've realised that there are ways to overcome these feelings. You might not overcome them fully but you will feel better than you did initially.
The most annoying thing about being in one of these moods is that you can't always explain why you feel the way you do or explain how you feel but you know within yourself that you genuinely don't feel great.
The most important thing to do is to try and encourage yourself, as hard as it may be, sometimes it's better to try and deal with your emotions by yourself before attempting to confide in others because not everyone has your best interest at heart.
Whenever I feel like this I:

1. Pray
2. Listen to uplifting music - mainly gospel (personal preference of genre)
3. Be your own encourager
4. Speak to people who inspire and encourage me
5. Try to engage in activities that I feel happiest doing
6. Declutter the environment around me/complete a to do list

I honestly feel like these steps definitely help to overcome these emotions as they you in a place where you should normally feel at your best.

Why I Don't Like Drugstore Make-Up | Make Up Rant

You might look at the title of this post and think what is she talking about, when she owns drugstore make up?!

It's not so much that I don't like drugstore make up but more I feel like it is very limited when it comes to foundations and concealers..
I'm not sure if it's just in the UK but most drugstore brands only go up to the shade medium which is really annoying.

I would love to be able to try out drugstore foundations such as Rimmel Wake Me Up or Bourjois but they simply don't cater to people of darker complexions. I know brands such as L'Oreal have darker shades in their True Match and Infallible foundations but they are not sold in UK drugstores which is all the more annoying because you have to search for it online and pay ridiculous shipping fees when the whole point of drugstore make up is its supposed to be affordable.

Maybelline have darker shades in their Dream Matte Mouse and Fit Me foundations but it's hard to find darker shades and the darkest shade in the dream matte mouse still doesn't cater to most people of darker complexions.

There are only two drugstore foundations that have a full range from light to dark foundations these are Sleek and B. Sleek is easily accessible at superdrug and their range of shades are vast, however finding the darker shades in the B. Foundation is proving to be quite a challenge as I have been to many superdrug stores on more than one occasion but still have not been able to get my shade.

I would love to go into a drugstore and be able to try some of the foundations I see Tanya Burr, Zoella and Estée using in their make up tutorials but at present that just isn't possible.

I know that there are some great foundations in the drugstore and I'd love to try them out as I don't want to constantly spend on high end foundations and concealers.

I WEAR MAKE UP TO PLEASE PEOPLE?!?! | Make Up Rant

"You wear make up to please people", "You wear make up because you're insecure", "You wear make up to mask who you really are", "You wear make up because you're not pretty"

I cannot tell you just how often I hear these kind of remarks, and to be frank, I think they are very ignorant statements. Why must the reason I wear make up be to please someone else?

Most people wear make up because they enjoy enhancing their beauty, others wear make up to gain confidence as they may have skin conditions which make them feel insecure and some simply wear make up just as a bit of fun.
Whatever reason people decide to wear make up for,  really shouldn't be anyone else's concern.

Being natural is a choice, the same way deciding to wear make up is a choice. I wear make up because I enjoy it, not because I don't like how I look when I'm bare faced. I tend to only wear make up once a week or on special occasions, that's my personal preference.
I'm so fed up of people judging others for wearing make up or trying to construct their own analogy as to why someone is wearing make up.

I don't think it's fair to make anyone feel bad about themselves or to belittle someone because they decide to wear make up.

This is a long overdue rant that I really needed to get out. Let me know your thoughts on this...

New Purchase | Olivia Burton London

I've been on the hunt for an everyday watch that's minimal and classy but not too expensive for a while now so you can imagine my delight when I was browsing on Asos one night and stumbled across the Olivia Burton brand.

Originally I wanted to get a Daniel Wellington watch because its so chic yet minimal but I decided I wasn't willing to spend that much on a watch that I'm going to be wearing everyday.

I immediately fell in love with the Olivia Burton watches and found it so difficult to pick the one I wanted most.
I ended up going for the one with the black strap as I felt this was the more practical decision and I can wear it with everything.
I'm still tempted to order the tan coloured one as well just because I think it would complement khaki colours beautifully and khaki seems to be growing in my wardrobe.

I love my Michael Kors watch a lot but I don't think it's appropriate for everyday wear which is why I've been so desperate to find a new watch.

I haven't worn it out yet but I'm sure it will be featuring in one of my OOTD's very soon.

OOTD | Summer Sunday

As we are finally getting some real sunshine in the UK I couldn't wait to start wearing my African print pieces as the colours are so vibrant and look beautiful in this weather.
Today I decided to wear this very simple African print dress to church. For some reason I've really been into wearing flats and flatforms lately so I paired the outfit with red open toe flats.
As there is so much colour in the outfit, I went for a very neutral make up look to compliment the outfit with only a tiny bit of gold in my inner tear duct to open up my eyes a little bit and to add a bit of glam.

Unfortunately, I don't have any details for the lady who made this dress as I got it made when I was on holiday in Ghana over Christmas.
However, if you're in London or you are willing to travel to London, I can give you details of my London seamstress whom I'll be doing a full post on very soon.

For once I've left my natural hair out, I'm not sure how long I'll keep it out but for the meantime I'm loving styling my real hair.

Mini Haul | Make Up

This is a very overdue mini make up haul!
There are a few products in here that I've had for a few months like my Giorgio Armani foundation and my Sleek lip liners (I forgot to include two of them).

You can imagine my excitement when I woke up on Thursday morning to an email from Superdrug saying they are doing 10% off all base products every Thursday in June. I couldn't get out of bed any faster!

My local Superdrug is quite limited but I still managed to pick up a few things and I'll definitely be going to another Superdrug next week to find some more products to add to my growing make up collection.

Products in this haul (and the ones I forgot to add) :

  • Sleek Blush in Rose Gold
  • Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #11.5
  • Collection Gorgeous Glow Highlighter
  • MAC Lipstick in Film Noir
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
  • Collection Nail Polish in Milk Caramel
  • Sleek Lip Pencil in Cherry Oak
  • Sleek Lip Pencil in Rich Brown
  • Sleek Lip Pencil in Burgundy

Instead of doing weekly Superdrug hauls, I'll do a collective one at the end of the month to show you everything I have accumulated in the month of June.

Why To Stay Positive In A Negative Situation | Thoughtful Thursdays

Remaining positive in any negative situation is difficult, even more so when the negative situation includes a friend or family member.
When I say negative, I mean a situation that really pushes your buttons to the extent that you're ready to snap.
In these kinds of situations I try to think of all the good things that person has done for me and most of the time it outweighs the negative so I don't get angry with the person.
On that rare occasion where the negatives outweigh the positives I try to remain calm and collected and once the situation has died down a little, speak to that person and let them know how I feel without being rude and aggravating the situation further.
Most of the time we react to negative situations without actually having time to think about our actions first which is when we later regret some of the things we said or did.
I would definitely say this is the best way to deal with these situations because it saves the awkwardness that tends to naturally tends to form.

In a case where a negative situation occurs with someone you're not too familiar with, it really isn't worth reacting negatively as you never know when your paths could cross again for yours or their benefit and that negative reaction could become an permanent impression of you.

In short, reacting negatively to a negative situation isn't worth it because you'll more than likely do more damage to yourself than the other person.

SAMPLE: Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

A few weeks back, I asked if any of you had tried the new Bare Minerals product but I didn't receive much response because its new.

I recently popped in to Debenhams in Oxford Street on a completely different agenda but thought why not try it out whilst I was there.

The lady that served me was really nice, she originally matched me to the shade 'Chestnut' but I asked to try a darker shade as I felt this one was a little bit on the ashy side.
The shade darker was 'Sienna' which I felt matched me a bit better. I didn't want to commit to buying the full size tube if I wasn't going to completely like it and I wanted to see how the product would look in natural lighting (store lights can sometimes be deceiving).

I tried the sample today and I really liked it!

When I first started applying it, I was thinking what on earth is this, why does it look grey?! But I worked it into my skin using my fingers and honestly I didn't feel like I had any product on my face but it left a nice dewy finish.

I did have to powder a lot during the day but that's my fault as I forgot to prime my skin before applying the product.

I will definitely be purchasing the full size product because I think it  will be perfect for summer as it is so lightweight.

I couldn't sing enough praises for this product, it honestly is amazing even for people with oily skin like myself. I'll update you on how long the product lasts without shine once I use it with a primer.

I Gave Estée Lauder Another Chance!

I know it was only recently I had nothing positive to say and had no interest in Estée Lauder but, I'm still so determined to find out why everyone is so crazy about this brand for foundation.

I must admit, after watching Patricia Bright and her sister's Estée Lauder ad I was all the more determined to give it another go.

I went to selfridges in London and was colour matched again but to a different shade. I only tried out the Double Wear Foundation this time. The colour I was matched with wasn't far off but it did make my skin look dull and a little bit grey (I didn't notice this in the store). However, I didn't get that cakey feeling on my skin I experienced last time I tried it. I went away with a sample which I used yesterday but I still wasn't completely happy with the shade so I used my Lancôme foundation instead.

This is how the initial application looked although the grey undertone doesn't really show up on camera.

Although I'm not completely in love with Estée Lauder just yet, I don't completely hate it anymore either. Hopefully, I'll find a shade that matches me perfectly but in the mean time I'll stick to my Lancôme and Giorgio Armani.

My Weight Gain Journey | Update

It wasn't too long ago that I posted saying I had given up trying to put on weight because absolutely nothing was working for me.

Miraculously, I have some how managed to gain a little bit of weight and I found this out without the aid of a scale.
A few people have told me I've put on weight which I'm delighted about but unfortunately I can't actually tell you how I did it because I have no idea how it happened.

I have noticed that my appetite has increased a little recently and I've been trying my best to eat 3 times a day.

I haven't been sticking to my fitness regime much which I'm not proud of but I will get back on it as I want the weight I gain to look healthy.

Estee Lauder Isn't For Me!

If you've seen my wishlist, you'll have noticed that there are quite a few Estee Lauder products on there.
I was desperate to buy these products because I'd heard so many amazing things and wanted to try it out for myself.

Today, I went into Westfield to get colour matched and I was truly disappointed.

I tried the Double Wear Light Foundation first as I'm looking for a summertime foundation that gives full coverage but is lightweight. This foundation has limited shades and none of them seemed to match.

I then went on to try the Double Wear Foundation, although there was more variety in the shades, I really didn't like the way the foundation felt on my face. It felt really cakey and my face felt stiff.

I'm glad that I went in store to colour match because I feel as though I've saved myself some money by not purchasing a product that I would never use.

I have removed these products from my wishlist for the time being but who knows, maybe I'll try them again in the future and have a different opinion.

MakeUp Forever Is Coming To The UK!

When I heard the amazing news that MakeUp Forever was coming to the UK I was completely estatic.
For about 2 or 3 years I've been wanting to try out the MakeUp Forver Mat Velvet foundation and the MakeUp Forever HD foundation but the risk of ordering it online and the shade being completely off was too high so I never purchased it.
They will be launching in the UK on May 19th at Debenhams Flagship store in Oxford street.

I will definitely be there for the launch, and if you're like me and you've been desperate to try out their products you'll be as excited as I am.

Hope to see you there!

Should I Purchase? | Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

I'm extremely eager to purchase this product but the word hydrating sticks out to me as I have very oily skin.
I haven't seen many reviews on this product or heard many people talk about it as it's a new product, so before I fork out £26 on a product I may never use, I'd like to know if this product is really worth it.
If you've tried this product, regardless of your skin type, I'd love to know what you thought of it.
I'm hoping it will be a good product for summertime as I've read that it is very light weight but still gives the same amount of coverage as a foundation would.
It's said to work as a bb cream, cc cream and tinted moisturiser all in one.

Don't forget to comment below and tell me your thoughts!

Back to Basics

Throughout the year I notice that my style evolves and then reverts back to basic fashion.
This spring I have decided to clear out my wardrobe (again!) and go back to basics and stay there.
Most people know me for my signature all black everything wardrobe which to be quite honest is down to pure laziness rather than style influence.

Anyway, I'm purchasing basic items which I feel will never go out of fashion and can be worn in many different ways throughout the year.
I'm sticking to basic colours such as black, white, grey, navy, camel, khaki and khaki green.
I just feel as though these are staple colours that can be worn throughout the year and to any occasion.

I will definitely try and inject a pop of colour into my wardrobe but nothing too dramatic.

Look out for my clothes haul as I will be going shopping very soon.

My Weight Journey

While most people are on a weight loss journey both on youtube and here in the blogging world, I'm on a weight gain journey... I know, it sounds completely crazy!

I don't have any serious issues with my current weight and for the most part I actually like my size but for three years now the scales have been stuck on 7.5 stone which for me seems underweight for my age and height.

I've tried all kinds of remedies to try and gain weight but to no avail.

I've come to embrace the fact that I'll never be as big as I want to be but I've decided to start taking more interest in my fitness.

I go jogging every morning around 6am, I'm noticing that I feel a lot happier as I'm exercising and my appetite is increasing slightly.

Let me know if you'd like an update on my weight/fitness journey.

My Current Foundation | Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24hr Foundation Review

I bought this foundation in April last year and didn't use until December last year because it was the most expensive foundation I'd ever bought and I never wanted it to run out.
I saw so many youtubers raving about this product but I still wasn't moved to use it.

This is hands down my holy grail foundation of 2015 thus far.
I love the consistency, the colour match, the coverage and the way it feels on my skin. It doesn't feel heavy or cakey at all.

I use 2 pumps to get a nice full coverage and it is definitely buildable coverage. If you have super oily skin like myself, you'll definitely have to use a primer or be prepared to blot/powder a lot during the day. I find that my t-zone does becomes quite shiny/oily after a few hours without priming my t-zone first.

Even for oily skin, this foundation does give a nice dewy finish which doesn't look greasy.

Shade #510 Suede

I purchased mine whilst on holiday in New York last year from Sephora. I was matched with the shade #510 Suede which is actually a perfect match. My only concern is that I have tried to find the same shade in the UK and I can only find shades that are slightly lighter or slightly darker than the one I'm currently using as the shade numbers are done differently in the UK and US.

My only negatives with this foundation are that:
  • I'm not sure if it actually lasts 24hrs
  • The shade numbers are different in Europe and in America so you may find some difficulty repurchasing the exact same shade.
Other than these 2 negatives, I'm absolutely in love with this foundation and I'm not sure if it can be replaced just yet.

Picking Yourself Up | Thoughtful Thursdays

Most of the time when I feel miserable or stuck in a rut its because my environment isn't how it's supposed to be.
My room doesn't look quite how I want it to look, my desk is clattered and to me the whole house just looks chaotic

I've found a way to get myself out of these crap moods and to most, it will sound completely weird, but I like to clean. I feel like cleaning is a type of  external detox

Most people that know me, know I'm always cleaning but I clean more when I'm upset. This is because I find doing something productive gives me a sense of achievement and whatever I was upset about suddenly becomes irrelevant

When my room/house is clean to my standards I find I can think more clearly and more rationally.

Cleaning might not necessarily work for everyone but try and engage yourself in activities that make you feel empowered because once you feel empowered being miserable feels pointless.

Sleek Beauty Blemish Balm Review

I purchased this product 3 years ago and I loved it!
The texture isn't too thick or heavy, it gives a nice natural coverage and it's affordable.
My only negative at the time was that the colours are limited and my perfect shade would be a mixture of the dark and medium shades but I couldn't fathom buying both shades as I knew I wouldn't use this product everyday so I only bought it in the dark.
I decided it that it would be a good summer time shade or holiday shade as it would match my skin a bit better in the summer as I'd be darker.
When I first started wearing it, I did notice that it made me quite oily so I stopped using it for a while.
I rediscovered it in my make up collection last September and thought I'd give it another try. I remembered why I loved it and started using it again.
I didn't realise that it has an awful flashback due to the SPF15 in the product and when I saw a photo of myself I couldn't pin point why my skin looked ashy and white washed until I back tracked and remembered that I had applied this product on that day.

(This is the only picture I could find)

The product isn't terrible but I would advise not to use if you're planning to take pictures on that day because the flashback is ridiculous.
I'm yet to try this product again but with a primer because it is definitely not the best finish if you have oily skin.
I'd definitely like to use it in summer for days when I feel I need more coverage but something that is very lightweight.
